Do you have an unbridled soul? Then decorate your bedroom in boho style
24 Aug

Have you heard the term boho design? The name is derived from the term boho. It comes from France and its roots go back to the 19th century. Whether interiors are referred to as boho, bohemian or bohemian, it’s always the same style. Its key elements are unbridled, fresh and wild. It is full of textures, colours and decorations. If you are one of those creative people with an unbridled soul, a boho style bedroom will be right for you.

How to characterize the boho style?

Boho is basically a modern version of hippie style. The word “boho” is derived from the French word “bohème”, which referred to an unorganized group of artists fighting against the bourgeois world order.

That is why it is typical of boho interiors:

  • freedom,
  • Disorganization,
  • looseness,
  • artistic concept.

Since rules certainly have no place here, there is room for randomness and inconsistency. Feel free to combine the seemingly incompatible. Various ethnic elements are popular, such as Indian, Moroccan or Native American. The space should express your state of mind.

Hippy-boho or boho-chic?

There are two bohemian styles that are distinctly different from each other. Therefore, you need to be clear about which one you tend more towards.

  1. Hippy-boho – there are no rules in this concept. Feel free to go for contrasting combinations. For example, paint the walls blue and cover the bed with red sheets. Mix all the colours and express your personality through design.
  2. Boho-chic – the colour scheme is based more on light tones and subtlety. It is ideal especially for the bedroom, which is supposed to be a room of relaxation and harmony.

Furnish your bedroom in boho-chic style

A boho-chic bedroom is restrained, but at the same time gives room for your creativity. Tones of brown, beige and cream are preferred. These will combine well with bolder colours such as burgundy, mustard, emerald green or blue. Boho is one of the top five most popular styles for bedrooms.

Main attributes:

  • Natural materials – wood, rattan, linen, jute, wool and anything made from these materials are perfect for a boho bedroom.
  • Travel souvenirs – display the souvenirs you brought back from your holiday. Bet on statuettes, vases, but also paintings or stones.
  • Vintage – don’t be afraid to combine old and new furniture. Look in the bazaars for furniture and accessories from the last century.
  • Art – choose paintings, musical instruments, books or vinyl records as decoration.
  • Handmade decorations – boho interior will get along great with macrame accessories or Indian dream catchers, which you can easily make at home.
  • Houseplants – bring a piece of nature and an element of life into the bedroom. Feel free to use exotic plants such as orange and lemon trees.

Bohemian bedroom furniture

Choose a bed made of wood or rattan for a boho-style bedroom. You can’t go wrong with a pallet bed either. Boho beds are usually close to the ground or stand on conical legs.

At Materasso you can have your bed made to measure. The choice of legs, body and headboard is entirely up to you. It is also up to your taste to choose the colour and material of the upholstery that will perfectly match your ideas.

If you have a bedroom with high ceilings, you can add a canopy bed with a silky soft bedspread. Since boho takes its inspiration from nature, the bedding should also be made from natural materials. Choose pure cotton or cotton sateen. The advantage of cotton sateen is that it does not wrinkle. Cotton can wick away sweat in summer and keep you warm in winter.

There should be bedside tables on each side of the bed. However, you don’t have to choose the same ones. The exuberance of the bohemian style allows you to combine two completely different pieces. For example, go to a junk shop or flea market. Never mind a scratch here and there. Just paint the furniture or leave it as is.

Decorations in boho style

There are many boho accessories for the apartment. In the bedroom there is room for them especially on the bed, but not only there. Accessorise the bed with lots of decorative cushions, which can have a cotton or knitted cover. Covers with tassels, sequins or decorative rhinestones will look perfect. You can’t go wrong with lace either.

Throw the bedspread over the bed. You can reach for a crocheted or knitted one. It can also be decorated with tassels or ornaments. Don’t forget to layer. Put more than one bedspread on the bed. Just make sure they’re different sizes and that the layering stands out. Only drape the bed casually, because that’s the bohemian life.

Bedroom decoration

Hang large Indian dream catchers on the walls. Hang flower pots in scrubbed macrame curtains. A rug can also hang on the wall. Place vases of dried flowers on shelves and dressers. Ceramic vases will look best. You can also opt for gold or bronze accessories to add a boho bedroom flair.

The iconic bohemian accessory is clearly the rug. It will look great especially on a wooden floor. The most popular are hand-woven Turkish carpets, called kelims which are most often in dark red or burgundy. You can’t go wrong with brightly coloured carpets either. You can also lay a woollen white carpet with geometric shapes on the floor. Even with carpets, you can choose the layering principle and lay individual carpets over each other. If you’re not a fan, replace them with faux fur.

The real icing on the cake is decorating with trophies. Most often it is an antler or an animal skull. If this is too morbid for you, choose a poster with this theme.

Lighting

Lighting plays a significant role in a boho bedroom. If the room allows it, reach for hanging chandeliers. If the ceilings are low, choose chandeliers that are mounted, which do not intrude into the space as much as pendant chandeliers. Chandeliers with a metallic metal shade are ideal, but also chandeliers with fabric or barkcloth shades. You can also opt for ornaments and beading.

You can achieve a calm atmosphere with mood and complementary lighting in the form of various lamps made of natural materials. Tea lights as well as classic long candles should not be missed.

Give your bedroom some soul and furnish it in bohemian style. We guarantee you’ll look forward to your bedroom.
