A boxspring double bed that will be the pride of your bedroom

Have you been sleeping on a conventional bed until now? It’s time to experience for yourself how good sleeping on a boxspring bed can be. The bed has a triple mattress system that makes you sleep like you’re in the most luxurious hotel in the world. What makes a boxspring bed different?

Why would you gladly swap a classic airport bed for a boxspring double bed?

American boxspring beds have recently come to be regarded not only as a symbol of luxury, but more importantly as beds that provide the most comfortable sleep and rest. They are distinguished from classic beds by their boxspring base with springs, which give the bed comfort, strength and airiness. These are fully upholstered beds that put a face to the bedroom. They give a peaceful impression and make you want to rest during the day.

Classic bed vs. boxspring: construction design

If a classic bed is upholstered, it may look like a boxspring at first glance. But if you examine the design closely, you’ll find that the look is the only thing that connects the two beds. Luxury boxspring beds have a spring system instead of the slatted grid you find in a traditional bed. These are bonell springs that are housed in the solid frame of the boxspring bed. Therefore, these beds do not have a storage space.

Triple mattress system

A classic bed most often has only one mattress, which rests on a grid. Boxspring beds offer a triple mattress system. This is what makes sleeping on an American bed so comfortable. This is because the three mattresses can optimally distribute the pressure exerted and respond precisely to the point load.

What kind of mattresses can you find in the boxspring?

  • Lower spring mattress – this is the aforementioned boxspring, which consists of bonell springs,
  • sleeping mattress – placed on a boxspring, can be foam or spring,
  • topper – the top thin mattress topper, which adjusts the firmness of the sleeping mattress, also increases the hygiene of the bed by protecting the mattress from dust and dirt.

Classic bed vs. boxspring: headboard treatment

Few beds these days don’t have a headboard. You’ll also find a headboard on classic beds. In luxury boxspring beds, the headboard is a real gem that is also functional. Like other headboards, it protects the sleeper from the cold penetrating through the wall. Internally, it gives a person a sense of security.

The headboards of boxspring beds are soft and upholstered in the most pleasant fabrics. And it’s high enough to rest your whole back on. Boxspring headboards are decorated with stitching, upholstery buttons or other accessories. Headboards made up of smaller upholstered pieces are also popular. The headboard can be a part of the bed, but you can also mount it on the wall and just attach the bed to the headboard.

Classic bed vs. boxspring: bed height

The height of the sleeping area is another parameter that distinguishes these two beds from each other. The height of the sleeping surface of the classic bed is approximately 40 cm above the ground. It depends on the thickness of the mattress. In an American boxspring bed, the sleeping surface can be up to 60 cm from the floor.

The height of the sleeping surface is influenced not only by the mattress, but also by the height of the sides from the ground. The height of the sides is measured from the floor to the edge of the sides. For a conventional bed, the height is between 45 and 49 cm. For raised and boxspring beds, the height of the sides is 50 cm or more.

Since boxspring beds boast a sleeping surface height of up to 60 cm, they are among the most comfortable beds. Beds this high are easy to get into, but also comfortable to get out of. When getting up and sitting down, you don’t put unnecessary strain on your knees and hips, which is appreciated not only by seniors.

Loading area height depending on body shape

In order to make getting in and out of bed comfortable, the height of the bed should correspond to how much you measure. How do you know what’s right for you?

  • Sit on the edge of the bed,
  • lower your feet to the floor so that the entire surface of your feet touch the floor,
  • if the knee makes a 90° angle when sitting, the bed has the optimum bed height.

Classic bed vs. boxspring: adapting to individual requirements

You can adapt the Boxspring bed to the colours, materials and style of your bedroom as much as possible. A classic wooden bed, for example, will not allow you to do this.

At Materasso, we manufacture beds and mattresses to order. You can choose from dozens of headboard designs, from hundreds of upholstery fabrics and thousands of colours. A boxspring bed stands on legs, of which we have more than 10 types in our range. It’s up to you to choose not only the colour, but also the material and design. Do you prefer wood, plastic or metal? Do you want legs turned into modern shapes, or do you go for the classics?

Thanks to the choice of colour and fabric, the boxspring bed fits any style of bedroom. Leather and leatherette go well with industrial and minimalist styles, while fabric upholstery is a great choice for Scandinavian, French or country-style bedrooms. Anti-stain and non-fabric materials suitable for allergy sufferers are also available.

  • Boxspring 22-32 or continental bed – a classic boxspring bed with a spring base on which a sleeping mattress and topper are placed. It has no storage space. The height of the sides is either 22 cm or 32 cm.
  • Boxspring mobile – the design is the same as the model described above. In addition, it has the possibility of infinite positioning of the head, back and legs. Foam mattresses are best suited for reclining mattresses that cannot be damaged by bending.
  • The UP Maxi – a designer bed that combines the convenience of a boxspring but has storage space without dividers. It is suitable for laying a large double mattress.
  • UP Metal – also a bed with storage space. It has a slatted grid with metal construction, which can cope with large mattresses. Thanks to pneumatic pistons, the sleeping surface is easy to lift.
  • Bed UP BV/NV – design bed, which in the UP NV variant offers the possibility of head positioning. It has a wooden tilt mattress, on which it is best to put two separate mattresses to use the tilt mattresses comfortably. You can also install an electrically reclining mattress in this bed.

Bed just big enough

At Materasso, we can make your bed in a variety of sizes. After all, size is one of the important parameters for choosing a new bed.

Boxspring beds of 160 × 200 cm are best suited for small bedrooms. For standard-sized bedrooms, beds with a classic size of 180 × 200 cm are suitable. We can also make beds that exceed the dimensions of classic beds. Large boxspring beds can measure up to 200 × 200 cm. For long men we recommend beds with an extended length of 210 to 220 cm.

You’d be hard pressed to find another bed that adapts to your requirements better than the luxury boxspring bed.
