How do you know a good hotel bed?
14 Aug

The bed is one of the most important evaluation elements of the hotel. Guests will forgive minor shortcomings, but they won’t forget that they didn’t get a good night’s sleep. After all, the quality of mattresses and beds is what you will find most often in reviews. A hotel bed is not just about design, but also about the manufacturing materials that go into whether the bed is quiet or squeaks. They also determine the maintenance requirements and durability. How to choose the most suitable bed for your accommodation?

Bed as one of the important hotel evaluation elements

Sleeping as comfortably as possible is non-negotiable in hotels. It is the quality of the rest and the hotel beds with mattresses in general that are one of the most frequent topics on public rating platforms. Guests can forgive many imperfections, but they will never forget how their backs hurt in the morning.

With hotel beds, it’s not just the look that’s important, but also their durability and longevity. They have to survive hundreds of sleep cycles, thorough cleaning and sleepers of different body weights. That’s why it’s important to invest in a quality bed that:

  • easy to maintain,
  • is durable,
  • is designed for heavy-duty operation,
  • looks good.

The hotel business is extremely competitive and the bed can be the deciding factor in why a guest chooses your establishment. By investing in a quality bed, you get a piece of furniture that will last a long time, so you’ll reduce the cost of repairs. Plus, you’ll give guests a comfortable rest, which will reflect in positive public reviews. You’ll increase the chances that guests will be happy to return and recommend your accommodation, which will have an impact on occupancy rates and cashflow.

What does a great hotel bed look like?

As the hotel bed is the most stressed piece of furniture in the room, it is essential that it has a construction made of high quality material. The best quality beds have a solid frame that does not creak and is stable. First-class fasteners are important, as they are responsible for the aforementioned stability and “quietness” of the frame.

Dimensions of the bed

Choose the size of the bed according to the size of the room:

  • Standard sized rooms – the best choice is a hotel bed with standard dimensions of 180 × 200 cm.
  • Larger rooms – equip them with a comfortable 200 × 200 cm bed and give each sleeper maximum space for a comfortable rest.
  • Family rooms – if you offer family rooms, you can add a family bed. This is a family bed with generous dimensions of up to 270 × 300 cm. Such a bed can accommodate the whole family.

If you want to satisfy your guests’ every wish, offer rooms with extra beds. The length of the bed is not the standard 200 cm, but 210-220 cm. An extended bed will please guests whose height is 190 cm or more.

The height of the bed affects the comfort of the guest when lying down and getting up. The ideal bed height is 50 to 60 cm above the ground. Guests do not put unnecessary strain on their knees when getting up or lying down in bed. Comfort is appreciated by all guests, including the elderly or guests with health problems. The high sleeping surface is also more convenient for cleaning, which is appreciated by maids.

The height of the sleeping surface is influenced by the height of the mattress and the height of the legs. For our hotel beds, you can choose a footboard height from 5 to 13 cm. The mattresses are available with thicknesses from 15 to 32 cm. In general, the higher the mattress, the more comfortable the rest.

Boxspring or classic?

The most comfortable hotel beds are boxsprings. The solid frame is filled with bonell springs that replace the grid. They can perfectly distribute the pressure that the sleeper exerts on the mattress.

The sleeping mattress is placed on the boxspring base. The higher it is, the better sleeping experience it offers. Mattresses with a pocket spring core combined with comfort foams are ideal. Place a topper on top of the sleeping mattress, which adjusts the firmness of the main mattress, extends its liveliness and increases the hygiene of the bed. Thanks to the combination of the two mattress toppers and the boxspring base, the pressure of the sleeper is perfectly distributed. Therefore, one does not have to change sleeping positions frequently and gets a better rest.

For lower category accommodation, classic beds with slatted floors are the best choice. If you want to offer your guests the most comfortable rest, pay attention to the quality of the frame and the mattress when choosing a bed. The frame must be strong, stable and not creak. The same applies to the grate. If you are going to put a spring mattress on top of the mattress, choose a solid slatted mattress. In the case of foam mattresses, a flexible slatted slatted mattress is the best choice as it distributes the pressure on the mattress well. If you combine the mattress and the grate correctly, you will give your guest the most comfortable sleeping experience possible.

Unforgettable design

As the hotel bed is the largest piece of furniture in the room, it defines its character. It can either be an extravagant solitaire or match the other furniture and furnishings.

The most luxurious beds are those that are upholstered. Soft reinforcement is applied to the solid bed frame, which is then covered with upholstery material. Given the busy nature of accommodation, it is best to reach for upholstery materials that are easy to maintain. These include:

  • skin,
  • eco leather,
  • non-textile material.

If you opt for a fabric, you want one that is abrasion resistant, waterproof and easy to clean.

Not only the bed frame is upholstered, but also the headboard. The headboard is a design element, but it also has practical functions. It prevents cold from penetrating through the wall and offers a comfortable recline when reading, working or watching a movie in bed. Many people feel safer in bed because of the headboard. The headboard can be plain, composed of several parts or divided by quilting. Various upholstery applications are used to decorate it.

The headboard can also be made from solid wood, which is popular for its ease of matching any interior design. In addition, it is easy to maintain. You can also opt for a combination headboard. The frame is usually made up of solid wood, which is filled with soft foams and upholstered in the middle.

Even small details affect the overall appearance. That’s why it’s a good idea to give enough thought to the bed base. The footboard can be made of wood, metal or a material that imitates metal.

Hotel bed accessories

Hotel beds should be variable. They should be easy to combine into one double bed or split into two single beds. That’s why hotel beds come with connecting elements that keep the beds firmly joined together. Don’t forget about the mattress connectors that make sure that the hotel mattresses don’t roll away. Some beds have feet fitted with castors. You will appreciate these when you need to manipulate the beds.

Hotel bed hygiene

Cleanliness is key in hotel operations. Protective elements not only increase the hygiene of the bed, but also prolong its life.

The maintenance of the frame depends on the production material. The wood is usually wiped clean of dust and treated once in a while with renovating products. Coating materials are vacuumed or maintained with a damp cloth.

Mattress covers can have a variety of treatments that make them resistant to allergens (active silver), help you fall asleep faster (lavender scent), and are treated against parasites. The mattress covers are washable. We recommend placing a mattress protector on top of the mattress cover. Ideally one with an impermeable but breathable layer. It protects the mattress from liquids.

Place the thin topper on the mattress protector. The topper also has a removable and washable cover. It prevents food, liquids, dust etc. from soiling the main sleeping mattress. In addition, it adjusts the firmness of the mattress and increases the height of the sleeping surface.
