Would you like to have a mattress made to measure? Leave it in the hands of the experts. At Materasso, we have been manufacturing mattresses and other accessories for quality sleep since 1995. We have a number of certificates and experts on our team. Find out how we manufacture mattresses.

In which cases is a customized mattress the best decision?

People usually opt for a custom-made mattress in situations where they have an atypically designed bed. This may not only be a bed for adults and teenagers, but also a cot for children. The bed can be longer or, for example, shorter than standard mass-produced beds.

We argue that a customised mattress is the best solution for those who have high demands on the quality of their sleep. The next group is people who have specific health problems. Custom-made mattresses belong in the beds of sleepers who:

  • suffering from back and joint pain,
  • have allergies and respiratory problems,
  • are obese,
  • are bedridden for long periods of time,
  • they are plagued by a lack of blood flow to the limbs.

Years of experience are reflected in the quality of the production of a customized atypical mattress

If, after weighing up all the advantages, you have decided to have a luxury mattress custom-made, you need to entrust this task to real experts in the field.

Our company Materasso has been manufacturing medical and orthopaedic mattresses since 1995. We employ experts with many years of experience in the production of orthopaedic mattresses and beds. The main pillars of our values are the quality of workmanship and the quality of the materials used.

We know that customers are also interested in the overall detailing when making their choice, which is why we work with designers and engineers who follow and put into practice all the new trends. This allows us to meet your high expectations and individual needs.

We pay attention to the high quality of our products, which is also declared by various certificates.

  • Our company follows a certified quality management system, which is defined by STN EN ISO 9001:2015.
  • For gluing we use health-safe glue from Switzerland SIMALFA. It is an ecological product that meets the strictest standards of health safety.
  • Thanks to FSC certification, you can be sure that we only use wood that comes from sustainably managed forests.
  • The selected mattresses are on the list of registered medical devices in Slovakia, which is compiled by the State Institute for Drug Control.
  • All our cover fabrics comply with the international testing and certification system for textiles Öko-Tex Standard 100.

What are the parts of a mattress?

The mattress consists of 3 basic parts:

Core,
comfort layers,
cover fabric.

Materasso mattresses are completely manufactured in our workshop. We have specialised machines on hand to cut the foam, apply the glue, sew the covers and so on. A lot of the work is left to the human factor. Unlike our competitors , we finish many details by hand. Although the machines do a perfect job, they can’t do everything, and they are not as “meticulous” and can’t handle the finest details. We know that these are one of the indicators of a quality product. Watch the video of our production.

Once the mattress is made, we wrap it and store it. We deliver mattresses rolled or unrolled. We recommend leaving them in the rolled state with the air “sucked out” for a maximum of 2 months. If you will use the mattress later, just carefully make a hole in the plastic wrapping and let the mattress “inflate”.

Core: the heart of the mattress

The heart of the mattress is the core, which consists of either springs or foam. Springs are popular for their long life, high load capacity and perfect air circulation. The type of foam determines what properties the mattress will have.

Comfort layers: they take care of comfort

This is the part that is placed on the mattress core. They enhance a comfortable rest and give the mattress the desired properties. The comfort layers are closer to the body and ensure even weight distribution. They react to movements during sleep.

Cover fabric: comfort and hygiene

It is basically a mattress cover that protects the mattress from damage, but also from dirt. It consists of a lining, a filling and a design fabric. The cover is machine washable, thus improving the hygiene of the mattress.

How are customized mattresses made?

If you decide to have a luxury mattress made to measure, you can dictate to us:

  • production material,
  • dimensions,
  • load capacity,
  • stiffness,
  • other properties.

Production materials

We produce mattresses from:

  • Latex – they are softer and adapt well to the shape of the body. Due to less breathability, they are not suitable for people who sweat more.
  • PUR foam – this is the name of the foam. Customized foam mattresses have different firmness. Their advantage is good elasticity and shape stability.
  • HR cold foams – unlike PUR foam, HR foams have higher elasticity and dimensional stability. They are more breathable. They are combined with PUR or lazy foams.
  • Lazy foams – their stiffness changes according to the temperature of the human body. It adapts perfectly to human curves. They are suitable for people who have joint pain.
  • Bio foams – made from natural oils. They are more resistant to microbes, moulds and fungi. Ideal choice for allergy sufferers.
  • Springs – currently the most popular and comfortable are pocket springs, which are suitable for everyday sleeping. Bonell springs are used in mattresses for occasional overnight stays, for example at the cottage.

When selecting the material, do not forget to take into account the design of the grate. For foam mattresses, both static slatted and adjustable slats are suitable. For spring mattresses, a fixed slatted slatted grid.

Dimensions of the mattress

We can make you a mattress that is wider, narrower, longer, shorter or even round. It depends on your requirements. The most popular are the extended mattresses with lengths between 210 and 220 cm. Remember that the mattress should be about 20 to 25 cm longer than your height. The load capacity of the mattress should be 5 kg more than your weight.

In terms of height, the most comfortable mattresses are those with a height of around 30 cm. Mattresses lower than 15 cm are only suitable for occasional sleeping. Single firmness mattresses with a height of 6 to 10 cm are suitable for children’s beds.

Mattress firmness

Choose the firmness according to your sleeping position, weight, or health problems.

  • Very soft mattress – for older people or side sleepers. Maximum weight 70 kg.
  • Soft mattresses – for people weighing between 70 and 100 kg. For sleepers changing positions or sleeping on their sides.
  • Firm mattress – suitable up to 120 kg and sleeping position on the stomach, or when changing positions. Suitable for younger people.
  • Very firm mattress – for sleepers weighing up to 150 kg and preferring a supine sleeping position.

Other features

We will also make a mattress for you according to your health limitations.

  • Musculoskeletal pain – orthopaedic zone mattresses are ideal to keep your spine in an optimal position. Each zone of the mattress is differently stiff to perfectly balance the pressure your body puts on it.
  • Anti-bedsore mattresses – they are also called anti-kick mattresses. They are mainly intended for people who are bedridden for a long time. It prevents the development of bedsores. You will typically find them in the beds of the elderly, but they are also suitable, for example, for people in convalescence or for anyone who cares about quality sleep.
  • Mattresses for people with allergies – made of special materials with hypoallergenic treatment.
