The bedroom is not just a room to sleep in. It is a room where you rest and relax. You feel its atmosphere with every sense. You will hardly rest well in a bedroom with distractions. What should a dream bedroom be like? Well-balanced and harmonious. The bedroom accessories have a great influence on its effect.
When it comes to design, make your bedroom your own. It can match the style that runs throughout your home, or it doesn’t have to. The important thing is that the overall décor of the bedroom is consistent.
You should feel comfortable and safe in your bedroom. It’s a place where you should want to be, relax and sleep. It should have a calming atmosphere in the evening and help motivate you to get up in the morning.
It is generally recommended that the bedroom be:
The bedroom is neither a storage room nor a study. It should be kept tidy and free of electronics to make you feel comfortable. If space doesn’t allow you to have a study anywhere other than the bedroom, try to separate the desk from the bed with a curtain or perhaps a portable screen.
Although a bedroom should be airy and minimalist, that doesn’t mean it has to be uninviting and cold. How can you make this room perfect? By using the right bedroom accessories.
A stool or bench brings a new texture and texture to the bedroom. They elevate the overall impression of the bedroom. Their place is at the foot of the bed. They visually separate the sleeping area from the rest of the room.
Would you prefer a stool or a bench?
At Materasso, we manufacture bespoke bedroom furniture so you can match the quilting of the seat to the quilting of your headboard.
Both the stool and the bench are a practical addition to the bedroom, offering a place to sit when dressing or undressing. At the same time, you can put a bedspread, a bathrobe or a blanket on them, which you need to keep handy in case you get cold at night.
In order to blend in with the room, the furniture should be the same length or slightly less than the width of the bed. Never buy benches that are longer than the width of the bed. Apart from the fact that you may trip over them at night, they would not work conceptually in relation to the whole room.

If you want to feel cosy in your bedroom, complement it with an armchair and footstool. They’ll look best by a window or in a corner of the room. The armchair will give you a moment to yourself. You can read, write in your diary or listen to music. It can become your soothing bedtime routine. You can achieve perfect relaxation by stretching your legs on the footrest. The most comfortable chairs are those with a high backrest that you can rest your head on.
In addition to relaxing activities, the chair is also a functional piece of furniture. You can sit in it while putting on your shoes or putting on your socks. It can also be a seating piece that you can’t do without when beautifying yourself at the dressing table. For these tasks, a chair with a lower backrest will be most suitable.
In addition to its functional properties, the armchair is a design addition to the bedroom. If the whole bedroom is decorated in neutral tones, you can experiment with contrasting upholstery colours. Even a chair that is distinctive in design should fit in with the overall feel of the bedroom. For example, try to match the legs of the armchair and stool to the foot of the bed.
If you follow the Feng Shui rules when decorating your bedroom, place the chair in the front left corner of the bedroom, which is the area of knowledge and self-improvement. If you place it in the right front corner of the bedroom, you are inviting people into your life who will always be happy to help you. According to Feng Shui, the bedroom is a couple’s room and therefore the furnishings should be there twice. If space allows, place double armchairs , called boudoirs, in the room instead of a single armchair.

A bedside table is not only practical, but also a design element. Did you know that it is not necessarily necessary to have two identical bedside tables? They can each be different, but at the same time they must have a unifying element, for example:
To be both functional and aesthetically pleasing, the height of the bedside table should be the same height as the top of the mattress you are lying on, or it can be slightly higher. Also, as a rule of thumb, the wider your bed, the wider the bedside table should be.
The tables on the sides of the bed should match the bed, chest of drawers, armchair or other pieces of furniture. Since a bedside table is an accessory, it doesn’t have to be exactly the same in design as a bed, for example. Therefore, choose a design that “spices up” the bed. For example, a bedside table with a metal base and a wooden storage board will get along with an upholstered bed. You can combine a solid wood bed with an upholstered bed or a metal or glass bedside table.
In terms of practicality, you will be faced with the question of whether to have a table with or without a drawer. Answer what you need to have on hand. If you can’t do without medicines, tissues, glasses, cosmetics, etc., choose a table with a drawer. If you only need a table for a lamp and to put away books or jewellery, just a drawer will do. The more things you put on the table, the more cluttered it will look.

Textile materials also contribute significantly to the overall impression of the bedroom. You can spice up your upholstered bed with bedspreads and decorative pillows. A knitted bedspread, patchwork bedspread or velvet bedspread will add an extra layer and texture to your bed, as will arranged cushions. Pillowcases should be of a different material to the bed upholstery or bedspread. The important question is how many decorative cushions are too many and how many are not enough. Adjust the number to the size of the bed. Most often 2 to 6 cushions are used.
Emphasise the plasticity of the space with small piece rugs or runners. Their place is especially on the sides of the bed. In the morning you should lower your feet from the heated bed into something nice, soft and warm. Faux fur is ideal. The third of the bed that your feet are in can be on a larger round or rectangular rug.
Another fabric element that adds plasticity to a room are curtains and drapes. Choose the light transmission according to your needs and wishes. Don’t forget to take into account the view from the bedroom. If there is a neighbour’s window immediately opposite, choose thicker curtains. If the view is of the garden, the curtains can be sheer. Curtains can be partially light-permeable or completely opaque. Curtains and drapes add to the cosiness of the interior.
An essential addition to the bedroom is lighting. Each room should have 3 sources of lighting:
Warm shades create a pleasant relaxing atmosphere before bedtime. These are yellow to orange lights that tell your body it’s time to calm down and sleep. If you read before bed, the lamps should illuminate the pages in the book well and provide enough light to not strain your eyes.
The central ceiling chandelier should not hang above the bed. Subconsciously, you’d be afraid it would fall on you. Mood lighting can take the form of LED strips or LED strings winding under the bed frame or along the headboard. Place candle holders with candles on windowsills, dressers and shelves. For safety, battery-operated LED candles are ideal.
Turn your ordinary bedroom into an extraordinary one. Just cleverly add a few bedroom accessories to bring in a cosy and warm atmosphere.
